Creative + Sustainable + Handmade
The values that define Maya's jewellery, her business and her personal life can be described in three words: creative, sustainable and handmade. Maya grew up in Tel Aviv surrounded by art - her father is renowned conceptual Israeli artist Micha Ullman. Maya is a multi-skilled creative but finds silver-smithing particularly thrilling. Maya describes using the melted silver as a pencil or a paintbrush to create lines and textures, much like when sketching or painting the landscape around her.
Maya's work is all designed and handmade by Maya herself in her Cornwall based studio. Maya is particularly inspired by recycling preloved pieces of jewellery to create new work. She reclaims broken silver and gold clasps, hooks and chains and fuses them together, transforming these eco precious metals into fresh organic forms. Maya adds natural pearls and gemstones, many of which are sourced by her gemologist husband, Miles Mason, to create her collection of sustainable jewellery.
